Heute erhielten wir die traurige Mitteilung, das unser Freund und Freund der Seeleute, der Vater der "MLC 2006"

Dr. Dierk Lindemann

gestorben ist.

Wir sind erschrocken und sehr traurig über seinen Tod, er war so voller guter Pläne und Tatendrang, was die weltweite  Umsetzung der MLC Bestimmungen anging, dass sein Tod eine große Lücke hinterlässt. Gerne hätten wir seinen Sachverstand und Schaffenskraft weiter begleitet, jetzt bleibt uns nur, Ihm ein letztes Farewell zu sagen.

Für seine führende Rolle beim Zustandekommen der "MLC 2006" verlieh Bundespräsident Horst Köhler Dr. Lindemann im Jahr 2008 das Verdienstkreuz am Bande des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Im Jahr 2011 erhielt Dr. Lindemann aus gleichem Grunde den Ehrenpreis der Deutschen Seemannsmission.

THE death has been announced of Dr Dierk Lindemann, former managing director of the German shipowners’ association Verband Deutscher Reeder, at the age of 72. He was one of the key architects of the International Labour Organisation’s Maritime Labour Convention, colloquially known as the seafarers’ bill of rights. Dr Lindemann made a decisive contribution towards enabling seafarers worldwide to benefit from binding social rights.

Our thoughts are with his family members, whom we wish to give strength and consolation.

In recognition of his leading role in the origination of the MLC, Dr Lindemann was in 2008 awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon from the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Dr Lindemann had worked for the German Shipowners’ Association since 1972 and was managing director from 1991 to 2006

From 1990 to 2006, he was chairman of the Labour Affairs Committee of the International Shipping Federation and chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations.

He is also widely known in shipping circles as a publisher of legal commentaries on the German legislation concerning seafarers.
